Planning your Sweet16 - Music Section!

Planning your Sweet16!

Parents vs Teens:  Choosing Music!

I was talking to a mother of young teen girl and she telling me  how she was horrified to hear about the music the DJ played at a teen event. When planning a teen event the age of the teens can vary and it important to choose correctly.  Music is important but is a difficult topic.  The DJ needs to please both the teens and the adults of the teens.  Some parent just give up on the music and let the teens hear anything they want.  I believe their is a way for the DJ to play music the teens will dance too and not offend the parents.

The first tip is communication.  Sit down with the teen, the parent, and the DJ.  Discuss what is acceptable and talk about specific songs.  By naming songs, that will give your DJ a opportunity to investigate where you as a parent is coming from.

With music, here are some questions to ask:
1.) Can the issue be resolved with planning a "clean edit?"
Sometimes there are just swear words that you rather not hear and if you play a song with inappropiate word edited out, you are fine.

2.)  Can you fix the song with mixing skills?
Sometimes either the intro or the tag line (The end rap party) need to be skipped.  The whole song is not bad, just there are parts you do not want played. This can be fixed with a DJ who knows how to properly mix the music

3. Does the song need to be put in the "Do Not Play List?"
Some songs will conflict with your family values, therefore they should not be played.  Do not stress about it, for there are plenty of other songs to choose from.
